The east JO Festival takes place July 30-Aug. 7
Here is a description of some of the activities that will take place:
Junior Olympics in Connecticut-Need kids
Here is an opportunity for youth, particularly cadet age through 14 to get to know paddling in the best possible ways. The Junior Olympics program is a week-long experience and specialized for the needs of cadet age (and promising juniors) as a fun and instructional festival. In addition to some slalom races, there is a lot of time during the week for general paddling along with a wide variety of youth from other parts of the country. I know of one 9-year old (who is pretty good) coming from Colorado.
In addition to slalom activities there are down river and freestyle events. There will also be a BoaterCross and maybe some other activities involving kayaks and canoes in easy rapids. I am not sure of the difficulty but it is summer on a natural flow river near Hartford, CT.
The schedule starts July 30 for registration and free paddling, on-river activities with the first event, a zip slalom on Sunday afternoon, July 31. The final events will be on Sat. and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7.
At Tariffville there is free camping next to the river and the Mill. The Mill contains restroom and shower facilities.
There are nice rooms and motels in the area as well as restaurants.
Registration cost is $75 (unless the kid actually goes to the JO event in Colorado when it is only $50) and includes entrance to all activities for the week, a T-shirt, a final dinner, and opportunities to obtain membership on the cadet teams for slalom, wildwater, and freestyle...where these cadet team members will receive both a hoodie and a back pack and some trinkets (a stainless water bottle, a flashlight, and a multitool).
Please call me for any interest... 814-222-0052. e-mail is possible, but I will be away from July 5-22 and very inconvenient for e-mail.
Attached is a word 2007 as well as a word 97-2003 registration form.
The PDF fill-in form is located HERE. You fill it in and immediately send the filled in form via e-mail to our registrar, Michele Barbin at mlb10@verizon.net (Michele Barbin) Your check is delivered on arrival at Tariffville.
See you then!
